A winner and a consolation prize

Lucky French Knots gets the wool acorn!  Congratulations!  Send me your address so that I can get the acorn off to you.

For everyone else, how about a consolation prize in the form of an acorn pattern/tutorial?  This isn't the same pattern/tutorial I use for wool acorns, but it's cute in its own right.

A whole lot of love

Valentines
Katie loves to make her classroom Valentine's.  I'm pretty sure she's the only one who takes homemade and it makes her feel special.  Last year we made these and they were a huge hit with the kids and the teachers. The year before that we did lollipop covers.

No wool in site today, much to my dismay as I've got a kitty in the works, but lots of pipe cleaners, buttons, and craft foam.  If you procrastinate like we do and wait until the last minute you might want to give these a try.

Tootsie Pop flowers (back left) for the teacher
Dragonflies (back right) for the boys
Rings for the girls, which we will tie to a piece of candy.

Pretty lollipops

Lollyhands_2
Katie and I did something similar for her class Valentine's a couple years ago and she wants to do them again this year.  They are lollipop covers.  They are easy to make and something you can do with your kids!  I made these for Ready, Set, Create!, which will be out February 1.

Here's how to make your own:
Cut a piece of paper or cardstock 6" x 2.5".  Fold in each short end about 0.5" and fold the whole thing in half.  See drawing below.  Punch holes where indicated.  This is for lollipops smaller than 3" x 2.5".  Adjust the cut paper size according to the size of your lollipop.

Your paper should look like this:
Lollyfold

Time to decorate.   Kate likes to use stickers and draw.  We decorate one side and she writes her classmates' names on the other.

Line up the holes and put the lollipop stick through the holes.  It's a pretty lollipop!

Acorn tutorial

  • Hang and enjoy.
My recommendations for making this acorn: --Use lightweight fabrics, such as linen, cotton, etc. --Use heavyweight thread. I prefer to use upholstery thread for its strength when pulling and tying threads. --Make many.
